SNP MP Joanna Cherry has said the UK Government needs to "get its act together" in imposing public health measures to limit the spread of cotonavirus.

Cherry, who represents Edinburgh South West, tweeted a video of her questioning Health Secretary Matt Hancock on the issue.

She said: "Most countries have public health measures at their borders to limit imported cases of #COVID19. The UK has been an outlier since mid March & needs to get its act together. Today I asked @MattHancock to publish the scientific evidence behind the UK approach."

In the video she asked: "Most countries have imposed some form of public health measures upon international travellers in order to limit imported cases of the virus. The United Kingdom has been out of step on this since the middle of March. And today we heard that details of a quarantine scheme won't be published until next month.

"As Health Secretary will he [Matt Hancock] publish the detailed scientific advice upon which the United Kingdom's approach has been based in this matter since the middle of March?"

Hancock responded: "Well, Mr Speaker, we are working on a four nations approach and trying to make sure the approach we have to international travel is aligned across all four nations including with the SNP Government in Edinburgh.

"And we have of course based those decisions on scientific advice and we'll make sure that as and when that advice is updated as we move through this pandemic. So the decisions continue to be based on that advice."

Cherry has written to Home Secretary Priti Patel about testing for coronavirus at UK airports on numerous occasions in recent weeks.

According to The Sunday Telegraph and The Mail on Sunday last month, Westminster government officials are drawing up a Singapore-style plan. The papers said those measures could be introduced by May at the earliest.

But Cherry, the SNP's shadow home secretary said "we are yet to see any firm plans or timetables".
