A TOTAL of 2105 patients have died in Scotland after testing positive for coronavirus, Nicola Sturgeon has announced.

The latest figure is an increase of two from 2103 on Sunday.

Speaking at the latest Scottish Government coronavirus briefing in Edinburgh, the First Minister said there are 1427 patients in hospital with confirmed or suspected Covid-19, up 119 from 1308. Of these, 63 are in intensive care, a rise of four.

Sturgeon issued a note of caution over the death figures, saying although deaths can be registered at the weekend, registrations tend to be lower.

She said: “As always, I want to stress that these numbers are not simply statistics. Behind every single one of these statistics is an individual, whose loss is being mourned by their friends, family, and all of their loved ones.

"I want to send my deepest condolences to everyone who has lost a loved one to this virus.

"I also want to thank – as I always do – our health and care workers.”
