A SENIOR Scottish MP has accused the UK Government of making a “pig’s ear” of its new advice on coronavirus.

The SNP’s Pete Wishart was speaking at a Scottish Affairs Committee inquiry into Covid-19 in Scotland and the effectiveness of the four-nations approach.

Wishart, who chairs the committee, referred to the scenes of packed trains witnessed in London yesterday as people returned to work.

He asked Scottish Secretary Alister Jack: “Isn’t this new messaging just putting at risk all the good work that the stay at home message has achieved?”

Jack denied there was any big differences in the approaches of the Scottish and UK Governments.

He said: “We have to at some point make some baby steps, but I would make one point here and it’s a point the Scottish Government ministers have made as well.

“Although there’s been a lot of a lot of noise in the media about this, the differences between the UK Government and the Scottish Government are absolutely miniscule, and that’s an important point and that point is being made, not just by me but also by John Swinney.”
