1 Twitter superstar, facebook funny, comedy queen, my pal Janey Godley’s voice-over videos have been retweeted during lockdown by the good and the great. Nicola Sturgeon is among her fans. Janey manages to get the important stay-home message over whilst making us all laugh out loud. You can follow Janey for her videos, podcasts and musings on Twitter @janeygodley and on facebook at https://bit.ly/3csA8qN
2 Are you and your other half an extrovert and an introvert locked down together? If so you will see yourself reflected in this facebook video where a man treats his pets to a wee Elvis singsong. While the dancing bird on the right steals the show, the really funny thing is the expression on the bird on the left, who is clearly no having it. Shared by Paula Wagemaker. https://bit.ly/3dx9qgr
3 Desperate for a holiday? Aren’t we all… but one TikTok star took his yearnings to a whole new level when he recreated the whole air travel experience. 4 One of the best things about lockdown has been watching ordinary folk get creative and pull off some brilliant parodies. One of the best of these currently doing the rounds is Dave Scott, known creatively as The Kiffness, who has attracted more than 300,000 likes on youtube and one dislike … most probably his wife. Tune in as he does a parody of Simon and Garfunkel’s 1964 hit The Sound Of Silence rewritten for lockdown. Catch him on youtube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZsfy8AD_S0
5 Lip syncs to Kevin Bridges, DJing while ironing, an Ayrshire mum is becoming TikTok famous, much to the annoyance of her teenage kids. You can find her on www.tiktok.com/@carmencharliethom
6 Wee Mary is a six-year-old lassie from Edinburgh named Carly who has roped her poor long-suffering dad into helping her achieve her dream of being a comedian as famous as Janey Godley and becoming best pals with Nicola Sturgeon. She counts Elaine C Smith as her style icon and she dresses like Isa from Still Game. Tune into her TikTok. tiktok.com/@daddy_carly2020?lang=en
7 The pets will thrive … they will thrive. ‘‘We’ve already had four walks today and we’ll probably do three more,” sings pandemic puppy in a lockdown version of I Will Survive. Be honest now, how many walks a day is your dog getting? What’s going on in your dog’s head? This cute wee puppy takes to the karaoke classics to let us know. Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
