GPs: Behind Closed Doors (Channel 5, 8pm)
THIS week, the GPs prove the very real value of a positive mental attitude. First into the surgery is Kelsi, who sees Dr Ajay about her obsessive compulsive disorder, which forces her to perform rituals such as not being able to go to bed until she has trodden on every floorboard in her room. Nurse Rosie is giving OAP Pauline a diabetes review, while Rebecca has come in with acute abdominal pain. Later, Dr Jennifer is visited by Luke, a young man suffering from memory loss.
NHS Heroes: Fighting to Save Our Lives (C4, 9pm)
MANY of us have tried to show our appreciation for NHS workers in recent weeks but those of us who aren’t on the frontline or don’t have a member of our household who is working in a hospital struggle to imagine what it must be like to battle the disease. This documentary tells the personal stories of frontline NHS workers, as filmed on their own smartphones. Recorded at home and at work, it reveals what they are going through to keep people alive. Contributors include intensive care nurse Luke and ICU consultant Rony, who admits the situation has made him face his own mortality.
The Great British Sewing Bee (BBC1, 9pm)
THE 10 remaining home sewers return for children’s week, and are asked to make a classic smocked dress in the pattern challenge. The task requires the sewers to combine tricky techniques, including making their own bias binding and a Peter Pan collar. In the transformation challenge, they let their imaginations run wild, turning sleeping bags into food-shaped fancy dress before being asked to make a pair of dungarees for a little boy or girl.
Rhod Gilbert’s Work Experience (BBC2, 10pm)
FOR many people, the idea of performing stand-up comedy in a room full of strangers would be bring them out in a cold sweat. But Rhod Gilbert thinks there are lots of jobs harder than his – which is why he’s now on the ninth series of this show that sees him trying some of them out. In this opening episode, which was filmed before the Covid-19 outbreak, he’s taking on arguably his biggest test to date by becoming a carer, facing big challenges along the way.
