BREXIT Party leader Nigel Farage received a visit from two police officers last night after travelling 100 miles to a beach to film a rant about migrants.

The former MEP tweeted furiously that the journey, which was widely criticised, had been a “total waste of time and money”.

Despite lockdown rules Farage made the journey from Kent to Hastings, stopping at Pett Level beach on the way, to complain about a migration “scandal” before interviewing members of the public.

Last week Sussex Police responded to the clip online by issuing a reminder of lockdown rules – which specify only essential travel is allowed.

And last night the former Ukip leader tweeted that two officers had visited him personally after receiving a complaint about the journey.

Farage tweeted: “Lockdown lunacy. Two police officers just knocked on my door to advise me on essential travel. They had received a complaint that I had been to Dover to report on the illegal migrant scandal taking place. What a total waste of time and money.”

Farage’s spokesperson had argued that as a broadcaster the journey was considered acceptable.

He told the Daily Mirror: “Nigel was working as a broadcaster. His interviews taken as part of the report were later used on LBC Radio."

Asked if Farage considered this an essential journey, his spokesman said: "Is it your job to enforce the law? I have told you the justification."
