BORIS Johnson will not return to PMQs as originally thought today after he and his fiancée Carrie Symonds announced the birth of a baby boy.

Dominic Raab will once again step in for the Prime Minister at the despatch box this afternoon as Johnson spends time with his partner and the new baby.

A spokesperson for Johnson and Symonds said: "The Prime Minister and Ms Symonds are thrilled to announce the birth of a healthy baby boy at a London hospital earlier this morning. Both mother and baby are doing very well.

"The PM and Ms Symonds would like to thank the fantastic NHS maternity team."

Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon tweeted to congratulate the pair.

She wrote: "Some good news - sending congratulations to Carrie and the PM. And wishing health and happiness to the wee one."

The birth comes after the Prime Minister spent time in hospital with the coronavirus.

The Tory leader was admitted to intensive care as his symptoms worsened but returned to Downing Street earlier this week following his recovery.
