A SCOTTISH woman who is set to turn 99 this summer has amazed doctors after surviving the coronavirus.
Daphne Shah, from Perthshire, was hospitalised at Ninewells on Thursday and tested positive for Covid-19. But Shah is now back at home safe and well.
Shah told The Courier: “I had a fine time in the hospital and was well looked after. I made it home in time for tea on Monday.
“My son is looking after me now. I’m feeling reasonably well now, but I don’t want to say too well.
“Having a celebratory party in July sounds like a great idea.”
Shah’s son Wes had been worried he might never see his mum again after she was taken away in an ambulance – but her faith and fighting spirit got her home in just five days.
Wes had sounded the alarm when he realised his mother’s cough and fever were a viral infection, rather than bacterial.
He praised the staff at Ninewells, saying: “I was getting calls from the hospital three or four times a day.
“They are a fantastic outfit and they will do everything they can for you. It’s unbelievable.
“As soon as this is all over, the first place I will go is to Ward 11 to thank everybody.”
Scotland is in lockdown. Shops are closing and newspaper sales are falling fast. It’s no exaggeration to say that the future of The National is at stake. Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
