AS expected, All Under One Banner has been forced to cancel its next two marches, and while the group wants to continue marching later in the year there must be a doubt on several more scheduled marches.
AUOB said on its Facebook page: “AUOBGlasgow May 2 and AUOBPeebles June 6 are now postponed due to coronavirus. We want to thank all key workers who are keeping Scotland running and we ask that everyone follows the medical advice. Independence has not diminished in value, it has only increased.”
Followers voiced their support, with Brian McLelland tweeting: “The inept handling of this by HMG has condemned possibly thousands to death. Scotland cannot allow itself to be treated like this ever again.”
In another announcement, AUOB wrote: “We are saddened by the news that John Barry has suddenly passed away.
“John was a regular and dependable steward at AUOB marches. The independence movement and indeed Scotland is lesser off by his absence. RIP John.”
Meanwhile, Aberdeen Independence Movement (AIM) has become the latest group to benefit from funding by the Scottish Independence Foundation.
AIM announced: “A massive thank you to the Scottish Independence Foundation.
“The latest funding award will make a real difference over the coming weeks and months, as we build the local economic case for independence.”
The Foundation replied: “You’re doing great work in trying to turn Aberdeen into a Yes City, so SIF is glad to help."
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
