Boris Johnson will address the UK tonight at 8.30pm to discuss the plans for tackling the coronavirus outbreak.

There are no details yet of the measures which will be announced at the live-broadcast event in Downing Street.

This is a prime-time broadcast which will affect the normal television schedule.

Johnson scrapped his planned daily press conference and instead scheduled a pre-recorded address to the nation.

Shops except for pharmacies and food retailers could be ordered to shut under measures being considered by all UK leaders.

Under emergency legislation being discussed by MPs on Monday, airports could shut and police would be able to force people with virus symptoms to isolate.

It comes as 46 more people died in England alongside four in Scotland and four in Wales, taking the number who have died in British hospitals after testing positive to 335.

On Friday, Johnson announced that pubs, clubs and restaurants would close to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

He also announced that people should practice social distancing, staying more than two metres away from each other, to reduce transmission of the virus.

It follows the announcement from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), earlier today, has announced that all British travellers should return to the UK as soon as possible as flights are not certain, even over the next 48 hours.

The announcement is likely to introduce further measures, which may include a full Italy-style lockdown and emergency regulations limiting the amount people are permitted to move between locations – however, there is no indication yet as to the extremity of the action which will be announced.
