FIRST Minister Nicola Sturgeon has said that closing schools has been the most difficult decision so far in the coronavirus crisis.

She said that she cannot guarantee that schools will reopen after Easter or even before the summer holidays.

"That's not something I ever wanted to say as First Minister", she added.

"I hope people understand we wouldn't be doing this if it wasn't necessary," she said, adding: "If anything it underlines the seriousness of the situation and the importance of everyone following the advice that is being given for the protection of all of us."
