ONLY 36% of Brits trust Boris Johnson on the subject of coronavirus.

The latest figures come from Opinium for the Observer, which also revealed that the public trusts coronavirus information and advice given by leading medical experts far more than by politicians.

The Government is seen as having handled the crisis well – 44% approving and 30% disapproving of its reaction – but politicians overall have gained less faith from the public compared to scientists and experts.

Johnson's 36% score was lower than that of the health secretary, Matt Hancock – trusted by 37% of the public.

This compares to 59% of the public trusting the chief medical adviser to the UK government, Chris Whitty.

Only 53% of people said they were washing their hands more than they normally do so.
