SCOTTISH craft beer brand Brewdog has slammed the Tory Government’s immigration proposals, warning that they will “impact on the future of our industry more than anything else we have heard over the last decade”.

In an open letter shared on social media, David McDowall, chief operating officer at Brewdog, said the UK Government’s plans could results in businesses having to “close restaurants, bars and cafes around the country as they buckle under the weight of an unsustainable workforce.”

He added that the Tory Government’s proposals will “do a brilliant job of destroying” the progress made by Scotland’s world-leading hospitality and tourism industry in recent years.

Aberdeenshire East MSP Gillian Martin called the letter a “welcome intervention from one of Scotland’s most successful companies”.

She said “It adds to the concerns already expressed by stakeholders in tourism, agriculture, care and fishing.

“Hostile Tory immigration policies threaten to plunge Scotland’s working age population into decline, cause serious staffing shortages, and inflict lasting damage to our public services, finances and economy – leaving Scotland poorer and worse off. The UK Government’s isolationist immigration plans fail to address Scotland’s economic, demographic and social needs, and time is quickly running out for Jackson Carlaw to stand up for the interests of business.”
