Saving Lives at Sea (BBC2, 8pm)

DOCUMENTARY telling the story of the unpaid volunteers who sacrifice their free time to staff more than 200 RNLI lifeboat stations across the UK. In the final episode, a crew must rescue two teenagers stuck in mud in Cleethorpes on the Humber estuary before the incoming tide overwhelms them. Elsewhere, a yacht is shipwrecked on a notorious sand bar in Devon and a routine call to pick up a boat that has broken its moorings becomes a race to save a family of four.

The Trouble with Maggie Cole (STV, 9pm)

ORIGINALLY entitled Glass Houses, this new six-part drama stars Dawn French as Maggie, who lives in a small coastal town with a close-knit community. Maggie is at the centre of it as a nosey parker who likes to know everybody’s business. The problem is she can’t keep it to herself, and when a reporter interviews her about local life, she ends up blurting out all manner of information about her friends and neighbours. Each episode focuses on the impact on them.

100 Kilo Kids: Obesity SOS (C4, 9pm)

HALF of Britain’s children are now believed to be overweight or obese. This documentary follows the leading childhood obesity clinic at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. Cameras chart the progress of some of its most extreme patients. At 14, Tommy is one of the clinic’s heaviest patients and, despite 18 months of treatment, his weight is spiralling out of control.

Five-year-old Liliana is twice the average weight for her age and Harry, 15, needs emergency treatment after his hip collapses.
