MICHAEL Gove attempted to ridicule the SNP today by quoting Dad's Army, saying "they don't like it up 'em".

He accused the SNP, or in his words, the "Scottish Nationalist Party" of being intent on "smashing up the United Kingdom".

His mistake was met with yells of "national" from the SNP benches, and was followed by a somewhat unconvincing justification on why he said it.

The strange interaction occurred following a statement on the UK's negotiating mandate with the EU by SNP Steven Bonnar MP, who called for a second Scottish independence referendum.
