THE SNP has said that the UK government must provide answers to "concerning" reports that intelligence officials at MI5 "do not trust" the Home Secretary.

Sources have claimed that "they don't have confidence in her abilities" and that Priti Patel has failed to attend a number of key meetings on security.

These shocking claims come after experts and business organisations criticised the UK government's immigration proposals, which pose a real threat to Scotland's future prosperity.

The National:

Stuart McDonald, SNP spokesperson for immigration said: "These reports are extremely concerning, and in the interests of transparency – the public will expect answers.

"If these reports are correct, this goes straight to the Prime Minister’s door and calls into question the integrity of the Home Office and the UK government.

"And with pressure mounting on the UK government to listen to the evidence and accept the Scottish Government's proposals for a tailored immigration system for Scotland, it's clear the UK government has a number of questions to answer.

“Scotland deserves better than being held hostage by a completely dysfunctional Tory Party and a Westminster government which avoids scrutiny at every opportunity."
