DOES your job pay enough to live in Scotland under Westminster’s new rules?

According to data from the Scottish Parliament Information Centre (SPICe) very few workers would meet the income threshold set out by the Tory administration. The Home Office wants workers to earn at least £25,600 to gain permission to live and work in the UK.

But the median gross annual pay for all workers in Scotland is just £24,440.

When broken down by sector, the highest earners are in mining and quarrying, which includes North Sea oil and gas activity. The average pay in this area is £42,848.

But in retail the average is just £17,940, and in accommodation and food services the average earnings are far lower, at just £12,012.
