SCARY footage has emerged of a CalMac vessel lurching in Ardrossan Harbour as high winds from Storm Dennis hit the town.

The storm has hit the UK just a week after Storm Ciara. Some places have seen more than a month's worth of rain fall in about 48 hours.

Police fear a woman, missing from Tenbury, Worcestershire, since yesterday morning, may have been swept away by flood waters brought about by the storm.

Over the weekend major incidents due to flooding were declared in South Wales, Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Shropshire.

In Scotland, many road, rail and ferry links were cancelled amid winds of up to 77mph and severe flood warnings.

A CalMac ferry, which was filmed trying to dock at Ardrossan Harbour on Friday, was lurched violently around as it tried to dock.

The ship's crew have received praise for their fast work during the dramatic incident.

The company's managing director Robbie Drummond said: "All credit to the skill of our masters and one to consider for those pressing CalMac to take more risk.

"Safety of our passengers and crew is always our top priority."

The man who shot the footage later boarded the ferry and said his trip was a "wee bit choppy".

He added the vessel did return to Arran but was delayed until conditions improved.
