The Earl of Home suggested eating grey squirrels to keep numbers down
A TORY peer has bizarrely suggested to the House of Lords that the public should eat grey squirrels in a bid to keep numbers down.
The Earl of Home's suggestion came as he called for it to become illegal to feed squirrels in order to reduce numbers and stop them destroying trees.
He told the House of Lords: “It might also be helpful if people knew that grey squirrels are extremely good to eat … and I have eaten them."
He added: “To my mind the best place for a grey squirrel is in one cage in London Zoo, and nowhere else.”
