THE Scottish Secretary has admitted that more than half of Scots pay less tax than their counterparts in the rest of the UK.

Speaking during Scotland Questions in the House of Commons, Alister Jack was questioned by SNP MP Marion Fellows.

She asked Cabinet minister – who is being tipped to be moved on as Scottish Secretary in this week’s reshuffle – to confirm that for the third consecutive year, more than half of Scots pay less tax than the rest of the UK.

Jack confirmed that “about 56% of Scots pay less tax”.
