THE new BBC director-general could be based in Scotland, a job posting for the position has suggested.

Tony Hall announced last month that he would be resigning as BBC boss later this year.

Now the BBC has posted a job advertisement to try and find a replacement for the 68-year-old peer, advising that the new recruit could be based at any of its main BBC bases including Cardiff, Salford and Glasgow.

The posting warns the new director-general will have to deal with political and media pressure at a time when the "BBC is under unprecedented scrutiny over the breadth, quality, content and value of its services".

It adds the BBC is seeking a candidate with a "proven ability to lead a significant organisation with national and international interests".

The advertisement says no experience making radio or TV is necessary, but does call for "sound editorial judgement" and "knowledge" of the business and media sectors.

And despite the warning of non-London-based work, the BBC says the £450k-a-year role will "require substantial time in London, travel around the UK and occasional international travel".

The future of the BBC is currently unclear, with the Tory Government having just opened a consultation into potential decriminalisation of the licence fee.
