THE Yes DIY page is delighted to flag up a couple of events coming up in the east of Scotland.
On Thursday of next week, February 6, economist Dr Tim Rideout will be in the Brunton Hall, Musselburgh, to speak at an event organised by the local Yes Group. The event is free but anyone going along should register at Eventbrite.
Yes Musselburgh said: “Come along and hear what the economist Dr Tim Rideout has to say about issues surrounding currency in an Independent Scotland. What currency would an independent Scotland use? What steps are required to successfully introduce it?
What is the planned Scottish reserve bank? What is the pensioner guarantee? How to test how prepared we are?”
People attending are asked to bring along £5 to play the currency game.
On Sunday, February 16, at 1.45pm in the magnificent Playfair Library in Edinburgh,
MP and QC Joanna Cherry has been invited by the prestigious Department of Public Law of Edinburgh University to speak at Scotland’s Future – An Independent Nation in Europe?
The organisers state: “As the UK Government seeks to negotiate the UK’s future relationship with the EU, Cherry believes that Scotland’s best future is as an independent nation in Europe. But while Boris Johnson refuses to accept a new referendum on independence, what is the way forward in Scotland’s constitutional journey?”
Again, please register at Eventbrite.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
