FOUR Scottish schools are set for a bumper year of sport ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics after winning £20,000 to spend on new equipment.

Discount supermarket Aldi gave Bellsquarry Primary School in Livingston, Brydekirk Primary in Annan, Chirnsyde Primary School in Glasgow and Castlehill Primary School in Cupar the cash as part of its Kit for Schools competition.

Each school is able to decide how to invest the fund, and projects range from a new outdoor all-weather classroom to new PE equipment and an outdoor gym.

The funds will be used to encourage more children to be active ahead of Tokyo 2020.

The four winning schools in Scotland were entered into a prize draw after Aldi shoppers from each region collected stickers to give to the schools every time they spent more than £30 at their local store.

Sean McGinty of Aldi UK said: “We are pleased to be able to help to give pupils the chance to take part in additional sports activities.”
