Between Earth and Sky: Watercolours and Glass

The latest exhibition to grace the Birch Tree Gallery features the works of artists Peter Davis and Angie Packer. Living and painting in Shetland, Peter’s work is informed by the Shetlanders’ interpretations of wind and rain and his interest in the visually descriptive language used by people living in the Northern Isles to describe the weather. At the opposite end of the spectrum, Angie Packer’s work is inspired by Venice, working with both glass and metal to create sculptural works.

Industry and Aesthetics

This travelling photographic exhibition forms part of the National Record of the Historic Environment. The exhibition is maintained by Historic Environment Scotland and the photos were taken as part of an ongoing mission to document the nation’s industrial places. Through a crowdsourcing exercise in which participants were invited to choose which words, feelings and emotions they related to each of the images, the photos featured were chosen. As part of the exhibition there are also workshops being held in New Lanark.
