TRIBUTES have been paid after the funeral of a Yes campaigner who passed away at the age of 44. Iain Aitken, who co-founded Yes2 in 2015 with John McHarg and Tony McCandless, died on December 14. His funeral was held at Bannockburn Crematorium on Friday.

McCandless said: “Iain had a colourful life, having obtained a degree in marketing from Stirling University and becoming involved in Scotland’s music scene among other business interests.

“Along with John McHarg and myself, he founded Yes2 as a response to the No vote in 2014. Over the next few years Yes2 established itself as a substantial social media presence and manufactured and distributed more than 100,000 items of merchandise as well as helping other Yes groups with items they could sell to support themselves.

“At 44, Iain has left us far too soon and unfortunately did not live to see the independent Scotland he fought and wished for. We will though all be thinking of him as we move to our campaign to bring the whole of Scotland to the idea of an independent nation where fairness and equality are bywords of our society.”
