THEY’RE the “Min in Black” and they’re inviting you to “rave in the nave” this Christmas.

Two Irvine clergymen have banded together to create a festive anthem with an environmental message.

Reverend Neil Urquhart of the Church of Scotland and Catholic priest Father Willie Boyd previously recorded an anti-sectarian number which was played in Scot schools.

Now the pair, who also call themselves The Shoes Brothers, have turned ecumenical eco-warriors with Come to Save Our Planet.

The song aims to get listeners “to join Jesus’ commitment to planet Earth”. From today, the tune – also available on the Fullarton Parish Church YouTube channel – will be played on Irvine Beat FM four times a day.

Boyd said he “almost needed a ‘hip-hoperation’” after filming the video for the track with local children on the beach, in the gym and elsewhere.

Urquhart said: “Rising tides, floods, TV programmes like Blue Planet, and the protestations of our young people heighten awareness of the need to better care for Mother Earth.”

“We want to remind folk that Jesus is passionate about green issues – come to save our planet as well as us humans.

“Indeed, his first bed was a recycled animal feeder.”
