WHAT might Richard Leonard want for Christmas?
With Scottish Labour facing the loss of all but one seat on December 12, according to new polling, it could be holding on to his job.
Not only has an Ipsos MORI survey commissioned by STV News predicted a seven-seat slump, it also gives him the worst satisfaction rate of all Scottish party leaders.
Only 17% of those polled were satisfied with his performance, with 30% unsatisfied.

That’s worse than Jackson Carlaw and Willie Rennie, who were both on negative numbers.
Nicola Sturgeon was the only Scots party head without a negative satisfaction reading.
With two weeks to go until the General Election, Leonard’s campaign is in disarray. He’s had to cut ties with one candidate in Falkirk over allegations of anti-Semitism and is under pressure to do the same with the Dundee West runner due to his connection with a man also accused of prejudice.

It’s hard to say what, if anything, Santa can do about any of that.
But if the polls are correct, it’s equally unclear how long Leonard – Scottish Labour’s fourth leader in five years – will be able to hold on to his position.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
