POLLING analysis has shown that the Tories’ advantage over the SNP in the north-east has more than halved compared with the 2017 General Election.

Andrew Bowie won West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine for the Conservatives with a 47.9% share of the vote and a margin of 15.4% – or 8000 votes – ahead of the SNP.

Analysis by anti-Brexit campaigner Gina Miller’s tactical voting website Remain United shows the latter figure is down to just 6%. Bowie is defending the seat he took from the SNP last time round.

SNP candidate Fergus Mutch said: “The SNP’s campaign in West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine is gaining ground while Tory support appears to be melting away. And little wonder. The chaos of the past few years at Westminster shows they can’t be trusted with our future.

“The Tory candidate is backing Boris Johnson all the way to the Brexit cliff edge, no matter the harm that will do to north-east jobs and our economy. If people in West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine want an MP who will put their interests first, fight their corner and stop the Tories in their tracks they should vote SNP on December 12.

“We’re certainly geed up by these figures but we’re working hard and taking nothing for granted over the next four weeks.”
