A BBC Question Time clip has been widely shared after former Tory MP Kirstene Hair said Boris Johnson cares about Scotland, prompting laughter from the Glasgow audience.

The former Conservative MP for Angus featured on the Question Time panel as the show visited Scotland.

Kirstene Hair claimed the SNP was failing Scotland and that "chasing independence" had seen them lose sight of other issues.

She said: "Nicola Sturgeon is so focused on independence that everything in the domestic agenda has been deprioritised.

"That's not the Scotland we want to see, that's not governing, that's utilising your position to campaign for what your party wants."

She added: "I believe Boris Johnson does absolutely care about Scotland, he was up in Moray today ..." but before she could continue she was interrupted by loud bursts of laughter from the crowd.

Another panellist on the show, Barry Gardener told the Conservative: "You lost it, really good up until that point!"

The first time Boris Johnson visited Scotland he was booed and heckled by protesters. He had to leave a meeting via the backdoor to avoid a repeat of the incident.

The short clip has since been shared thousands of times with comedian Janey Godley and others posting the moment on social media.

Scotland's Justice Minister Humza Yousaf also shared the clip writing: "This clip should be watched and shared over and over and over again. If you think Boris cares about Scotland you are deluded and people will (rightly) laugh at you!"

On the show, Kristene Hair also said the SNP has no mandate for another Scottish independence referendum.

She said: "We were told by the SNP that a referendum was once in a generation, once in a lifetime. Five years is not a generation, nor a lifetime. Nicola Sturgeon needs to listen."

Hair has been nicknamed "SNP gain" on Twitter.

Twitter users from across the political spectrum shared the moment.
