THE Tories are “scraping the bottom of the barrel” for General Election candidates after the party selected a woman who called the First Minister a “drooling hag”.

Kathleen Leslie – who will stand in the Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath constituency – is a former teacher who was employed by Tory MSP earlier this year.

Back in 2013, Leslie tagged Nicola Sturgeon – who was deputy first minister at the time – in a tweet which said: “Wee Jimmy Krankie is a drooling hag. She’s a walking horror show.”

The Tory, who was elected to Fife Council in 2017, also described Sturgeon as a “wee fish wife” and labelled EuroMillions winners Chris and Colin Weir “uneducated fat f*****s” after they donated millions to the Yes campaign.

Leslie was hired by Tory MSP for North East Scotland, Bill Bowman, in 2017.

An SNP spokesperson said: “It is beyond belief that the Tories think someone struck off the teachers’ register is suitable to stand for MP.

“We know the Tories have questionable taste in candidates – but they’re really scraping the bottom of the barrel.”

At the time, Leslie was reported to the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS).

She quit her job as a history teacher after being elected to Fife Council but was barred from applying for two years after waiving her right to a full hearing.
