THE First Minister addressed 20,000 Scottish independence supporters at The National's #indyref2020 Rally for Independence event this afternoon. 

Nicola Sturgeon told the Yessers gathered in Glasgow's George Square that independence is "within touching distance". 

The event also included speeches from Mhairi BlackMaggie Chapman, Valentina Servera Clavell, Patrick Harvie, the Wee Ginger Dug, Janey Godley and many more. 

When the SNP leader took to the stage at the end of the event, Twitter user @meljomur managed to capture the rapturous applause and cheering sparked among the crowd.

On social media, hundreds retweeted the footage, taken from a high level view overlooking George Square. 

Closing out the event, Sturgeon said: "We can get on with the job that it is all about ... of building that better, more prosperous, fairer, more equal, more outward-looking, more open, more inclusive, more diverse Scotlandthat all of us believe in our heart is possible. let's win our independence, let's win the Scotland we want to see."
