WE are used to Scotland being treated with contempt at Westminster. We had another glimpse of that in the Commons on Tuesday when Rory Stewart responded to Ian Blackford’s speech with a comment as absurd as it was disrespectful.

The SNP’s Westminster leader was hitting home with the harsh reality that Scotland is being dragged out of the European Union against our will, putting us at a “competitive disadvantage”.

Blackford also pointed out that Scotland is being “sidelined and silenced” by a “toxic” Tory party.

Former Tory Stewart’s response? He asked the bizarre question: “What about London?”

As an independent mayoral candidate for the capital of England, he’s obviously got his own agenda.

But as Blackford was not slow to point out, Scotland is a country and London is a city.

This fact often escapes our friends at Westminster …
