Paul O’Grady: For the Love of Dogs (STV, 8pm)
GIVEN the success of this series over the years, there was little wonder Paul took home assorted awards and there’s a good bet he’ll get a few more as series eight kicks off. Once more, he’s at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in London, and in the first episode, Paul meets seven Staffie puppies whose mother has rejected them. Cameras also focus on a 13-year-old mongrel who was found wandering the streets of north London, and Paul lends a hand building a ladder and a platform for nine-year-old pooch Archie.
Your Home Made Perfect (BBC2, 8pm)
ANGELA Scanlon presents the final edition of the property makeover series, which centres on a Victorian terraced house in St Albans, Hertfordshire. When Helen and Rob bought it five years ago, it needed a lot of work. They have put all their energy into renovating the entrance and the front room, but the rear of the abode remains a mish-mash of small and unpractical rooms. A narrow kitchen is too close to the only family bathroom, and a dark, windowless utility space has Helen comparing the back of her home to a dungeon. With a tricky brief, architects Robert Jamison and Laura Jane Clark compete to take control of this renovation project.?
Doc Martin (STV, 9pm)
MARTIN Clunes stars as a surgeon who is forced to retrain as a GP and takes up a post in a sleepy Cornish village where he soon finds himself at odds with the locals. Martin investigates after farmer Dennis Thorpe shoots Robert, after he took some of his eggs. Meanwhile Emily returns to the surgery to see Martin after her acne medication caused a bad reaction, and a secret bidder buys the Crab and Lobster pub. Starring Clunes, Danny Huston and John Marquez.

SUICIDE in Scotland is at a five-year high with three times more men than women taking their own lives last year. Reporter Chris Clements returns to his home town of Wishaw in Lanarkshire to ask why young men there are killing themselves. He meets families who have lost brothers, sons and partners and, among the sadness, he finds hope.
