The Great British Bake Off (C4, 8pm)

WE’RE at the semi-final stage, so a good time to test the remaining contestants’ skills in patisserie. The signature dish involves a delicate domed construction which demands a perfect finish. The towering technical sees the bakers tackle a croquembouche, and to round things off is the showstopper, in which the bakers must pull out all the stops to create an incredible edible display case. There are only three places available in the final, so one of tonight’s contestants will be star baker and one will be going home. As ever Paul Hollywood will be giving his verdict, along with Prue Leith, while presenter Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding guide us, and the contestants, through the proceedings.

The Battle of Skye Bridge (BBC Scotland, 10pm)

THE Battle of Skye Bridge tells the story of the islanders’ protests against the hated tolls, their struggles with the law and, after nearly a decade of campaigning, their final, euphoric victory. The documentary features footage from the time which hasn’t been seen before, contributions from protesters and authorities alike and explosive courtroom developments about a legal process that is still being contested to this day. It’s a David and Goliath story, told by those who were there – including Robbie the Pict, one of the campaign’s leading lights, and Lord James Douglas-Hamilton, the government minister at the time responsible for the project – and set against the stunning backdrop of Skye and the Highlands. Made by Tern Television, The Battle of Skye Bridge charts the remarkable campaign of local activists who refused to give up.
