SNP MP Alison Thewliss has been praised for her speech in Westminster that states the benefits of independence for EU nationals living in Scotland.

The Glasgow Central MP said 71% of her constituency voted against Brexit and said indyref2 is the only way for those from the EU to retain citizenship.

She added: "Mr Speaker, 71% in my constituency voted to Remain. The world class researchers doing world class and lifesaving research in universities in Glasgow are not half hearted Europeans.

"The children at Pollokshields Primary in Erasmus plus programmes are not half hearted Europeans and those citizens completing European social fund funded projects in Glasgow are not half hearted Europeans either.

"Would he not agree with me now that the only way for the people in my constituency to be full members of the European Union and retain that citizenship is for Scotland to be an independent country?"

The SNP's head of communications at Westminster said Thewliss "nails" the issue.
