KEZIA Dugdale has quit Labour after becoming disillusioned with the way the party has handled Brexit.

The former Scottish Labour leader stood down as an MSP in July and subsequently cancelled her membership with the party.

She then took a job with the John Smith Centre at Glasgow University.

Dugdale has been a prominent and vocal critic of Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, particularly on his position on Brexit.

She also admitted she failed to vote for Labour in May's European election.

It came after the party withdrew funding for her defamation case versus pro-independence blogger Wings Over Scotland.

It comes just over a month after Ruth Davidson quit as Scottish Tory leader, citing a "conflict" with Boris Johnson over Brexit.

Dugdale became Scottish Labour leader in August 2015 after Jim Murphy quit in the wake of a disastrous General Election campaign which saw the party lose all but one of its Scottish seats.

A spokesman for the Scottish Labour Party confirmed Dugdale is no longer a member of the party.
