TWO of the most exciting live bands in Scotland today will perform at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards (SAMAs)later this month.
Frantic Dumfries punks Franky’s Evil Party and legendary locals The Cosmic Dead perform at the award ceremony at St Lukes.
The Glasgow venue is marking 10 years of hosting the awards, which aim to celebrate the best contemporary music being made across Scotland. Previous winners include The Dunts, Be Charlotte, The Ninth Wave and self-made phenomenon Gerry Cinnamon.

Hosts Jim Gellatly and performance poet Leyla Josephine will present seven awards including best newcomer and best live act – the winners being decided via a three-day public vote opening on October 14 on the SAMAs website.
The awards are run in association with Rebel Rebel Barbers and Creative Scotland, whose head of music Alan Morrison says they “shine a light on the bits of the Scottish music industry that other award ceremonies don’t reach”.
Morrison adds: “What they find there is a buzz of activity, sometimes in vibrant underground scenes, sometimes on the margins where tomorrow’s talent is ready and waiting to step onto the main stage.”
The Cosmic Dead, who describe themselves as “Scotland’s foremost Hawkwind tribute act”, return to the UK today following an extensive European tour in support of eighth album Scottish Space Race, released last month.
The psychedelic foursome play a homecoming gig on Sunday at east end community arts venue The Space with punks Intrusive Thought and Dragged Up, a charismatic quintet who had folk of all ages dancing at a recent community fun day in Govan.
