THE Health Secretary has selected a single point of contact to investigate the concerns of families and patients at two hospitals which were hit by infection outbreaks.

Jeane Freeman said Professor Craig White, the divisional clinical lead in the Healthcare Quality and Improvement Directorate at the Scottish Government, will have answers to some of the more “pressing” concerns within weeks.

The announcement came after Freeman met with families and patients at Glasgow’s Royal Hospital for Children and Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH).

The families said they want more information from NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde on infection control initiatives, work ongoing in areas of the hospital and the outcome and timeline of safety measures put in place by the board.

After the meeting, Freeman said she was “grateful” that families had taken the time to be frank and open with her.

“All the information they have asked for is information they’re entitled to and should receive,” she said.

Freeman said their questions would be answered in an independent review expected to be released next spring and in the public inquiry announced last month.

Freeman said: “However, many of the questions are pressing and will be answered and resolved in the coming weeks.

“I’ve asked the chair and chief executive of NHS Greater Glasgow to meet those families who wish to meet them.”
