SCOTLAND "will never" consent to Boris Johnson 's extreme Brexit plan, according to the SNP's leader at Westminster.

Responding to the Prime Minister’s Brexit statement, Ian Blackford warned that the plan would take Scotland out of the EU, single market and customs union against its will and cause devastating harm to Scottish jobs, living standards, public services and the economy.

Blackford added that the only way for Scotland to protect its interests would be through independence and that the right for the nation to choose its own future would be at the heart of any future election campaign.

Johnson told the Commons earlier today that his proposals do not deliver all his Brexit desires but insisted they are better options than to "remain a prisoner" of the current situation.

But he accepted that they are "some way from a resolution" on the situation.

The Prime Minister urged MPs to "come together in the national interest behind this new deal" ahead of the October 31 Brexit date.

But first, he must get it passed by the EU where reactions are becoming increasingly critical.

Responding to the Prime Minister's statement, Blackford said the proposals were "unacceptable, unworkable and undeliverable" and "designed to fail" – adding that no-one would be fooled by this Tory attempt to shift blame for their plan to impose a No-Deal Brexit.

The SNP’s leader at Westminster told Boris Johnson he must secure an extension or resign, adding that the SNP stands ready to bring the Tory government down.

"Scotland will never consent to this extreme Tory Brexit, which would drag us out of the EU, single market and customs union against our will – and cause devastating harm to Scottish jobs, living standards, public services and the economy,” he said.

"Boris Johnson's half-baked Brexit proposals are even worse than Theresa May's.

“They are unacceptable, unworkable, undeliverable and designed to fail – but no-one will be fooled by this botched Tory attempt to shift blame for a catastrophic No-Deal Brexit.

"The Prime Minister must obey the law and seek an extension – or resign.

He continued: "The SNP stands ready to bring this government down in a vote of no confidence – we will do everything we can to get rid of Boris Johnson, secure an extension, prevent a No Deal and call an election.

"With Westminster ignoring Scotland again it is clearer than ever that the only way to properly protect our interests is with independence.

“The SNP will put Scotland's opposition to Brexit and our right to choose our own future as an independent country at the heart of the election."

Yesterday, Nicola Sturgeon said that Johnson’s plan – which is similar to Theresa May's failed deal but would keep Northern Ireland in the single market but outside the customs union – were designed to fail.
