Front Line Duty is an important addition to the indyref2 debate. With much of the defence and security discussion in a post-independence Scotland revolving around questions about Nato, Trident, and intelligence – Austin’s book has been praised for its unique approach to customs and borders. Austin served as a higher executive officer with HM Customs and Excise, working in the UK and abroad. He is highly experienced in anti-smuggling and is a chartered member of the Institute of Logistics.

Austin will be taking part in the All Under One banner march for independence the following day so it is hoped those in Edinburgh for the event will come along.

A spokesperson for Yes Edinburgh North and Leith said: “Bill comes all the way from Aberdeen to march with us on Saturday, we hope you can make it along despite the short notice.”

The event will be held upstairs in The Fly Half bar, 48-52 Constitution Street, in Leith.

The spokesperson said there will be no disabled access but said they are hoping to host Austin at another event soon.
