The National:

ANOTHER day, another social media storm for the BBC ...

The unbiased broadcaster has found itself under fire after referring to Tory MPs Michael Gove, Jacob Rees-Mogg and Steve Barclay as "Brexit champions" in a tweet and headline. The three had been speaking at a Tory Party conference event titled "Get Brexit Done".

I know what you're thinking - surely that's a quote from someone attending the Tory conference, who heard their speeches and deemed the men "champions". Well, if it is it's not a quote that's featured in the story. It looks like the neutral broadcaster has branded three Cabinet members "champions" off their own backs. In a headline AND a tweet.

Understandably, people are not happy the publicly funded broadcaster doing this. The tweet received just 80 retweets and 302 likes alongside a whopping 1200 replies.

One person pointed out the word "champions" wasn't even really accurate, since the Government has lost a significant number of key votes in the Commons of late and was ruled to be acting unlawfully in its suspension of Parliament just last week.

Another accused the BBC of bigging up the party of government.

Others compared the tweet with the BBC's decision that presenter Naga Munchetty had gone against editorial guidelines by remarking on racist comments by US President Donald Trump earlier this year just a few days ago.

Perhaps we'll be seeing another apology written on the iPhone notes app (a la the Laura Kuenssberg/Labour activist drama of just a few weeks back) later today.
