AN artist whose Homage to Catalonia painting raised more than £3000 for humanitarian aid in the independence-aspiring Spanish state, is among those whose works will be auctioned tomorrow to help young Palestinian classical musicians.

Douglas McKechnie will display Nude in 1970 at McTear’s auctioneers, along with Lanark lithographs by Alisdair Gray, Fields Andalucia, by Carole Gibbons and The Clockwork Orange, a print by autistic artist Michael Ferns.

Proceeds will go to PalMusic UK – Scottish Friends of Palestine, a charity helping young musicians study at the the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, in Glasgow. Injured children in the area will also benefit.

The aim is that after achieving their degrees, the musicians will return to Palestine as music teachers, to help more young students come to Glasgow.
