The National:

DESPITE standing down as Scottish Tory leader, Davidson has retained her ability to thrust herself into the spotlight. Judging by the response on social media, she may be regretting her latest entry into the public arena.

Responding to reports the SNP would potentially be open to helping install an opposition leader as temporary prime minister, Davidson took a decidedly pessimistic view.

She tweeted: “Let's take a guess at what the SNP's price would be for installing Corbyn in number 10... And we know from John McDonnell that Labour would happily hand them indyref2 on a plate.”

Representing a party which prides itself on harking back to the past, Davidson certainly has a short memory.

For it was not long ago that she quit as Tory leader, citing irrevocable political differences over Brexit with the current Tory leadership – you know, the people the SNP want to oust.

The deal agreed with the DUP to keep the Tories in power also seemed to slip Davidson’s mind.

Helpfully, SNP MP Peter Grant – and dozens of commenters – were on hand to set her straight.

Davidson's support for Boris Johnson also caught the attention of Twitter users.

Others saw the positive side of the SNP helping to eject Boris Johnson from No10.

The last word goes to SNP MP Stewart McDonald.
