History

Taking their name from their home city of Glasgow, known as The Dear Green Place, Dear Green coffee has been roasting and suppling exclusively speciality grade coffee beans to Scotland and beyond since 2011.

The company was started by Lisa Lawson who fell in love with roasting coffee while travelling in Australia. There she met Toby Smith, who was just starting to grow his Toby’s Estate coffee business. He taught her everything there was to know about coffee which ignited her passion that would one day see her start her own brand.

Over the next years she set about taking the big decision to ask family and friends for financial support to buy her first coffee roaster. She was frustrated with the lack of knowledge in Scotland about good quality and ethically sourced coffee and in particular the lack of women in the industry.

Today Dear Green is located in the heart of Glasgow’s creative East End, within the The Glasgow Collective – just a stone’s throw away from the legendary music venue, the Barrowlands.

The Coffee

The staff pride themselves in sourcing and roasting only the highest quality of specialty grade coffee, and carry an ethical and social conscience in every element of their output. Lisa and her team will travel across the globe to work alongside a select few direct traders and farms who they know and trust, to ensure transparency, traceability and sustainability.

As well as producing outstanding award-winning coffee, Dear Green directly supplies freshly roasted beans for cafes, restaurants, workplaces and homes, gives equipment advice, sales and installation and offers SCA accredited barista skills and sensory skills training. Just pop onto their website to find the wide array of beans from Guatemala to Kenya all with their own particular flavour profile.

Why Visit?

From their offices in Glasgow they also offer in-depth training in all things coffee for trade and the public. You can choose from latte art classes, coffee brew classes, espresso master-classes and SCA (Specialty Coffee Association) classes for baristas all carried out by one of the most passionate and knowledgeable teams in the industry.

Interesting fact

Toby’s Estate was run out of Toby’s mum’s garage when she first worked there in Australia. Today Toby’s Estate is one of the world’s most respected coffee roasters, winning multiple awards and with shops all over the globe including Singapore and New York.
