A BOOKMAKER has slashed the odds of Scottish independence, making it the clear favourite in a future referendum.
Irish bookie BoyleSports announced it had cut the odds on more Scots backing Yes than No in indyref2 from 5/6 to 8/11.
The betting firm is giving even odds for the likelihood of a No vote in a future referendum on Scottish independence.
A spokesperson for BoyleSports, Lawrence Lyons, told our sister paper The Herald: “Calls are growing for a second referendum in Scotland and supporters of the status quo have plenty to be concerned about according to the bets we’re seeing.
"The odds are now clearly in favour of a vote for independence and we have no choice but to make it an odds-on prospect should the vote materialise.”

That vote ended with Scots rejecting independence by 55% to 45%. However, various polls since have shown a narrowing of the gap, with one poll in August – commissioned by Lord Ashcroft – putting Yes in the lead.
