AN SNP MP will today ask the Scottish Government what it intends to do to stop disorder during marches.

Glasgow Shettleston MSP John Mason raised the issue with Nicola Sturgeon last week after sectarian clashes during an Irish Republican march in the city’s Govan area. However, there was further trouble at the weekend.

Mason said: “The violence on Glasgow’s streets over the past two weekends is completely unacceptable. The vast majority of the city’s residents are fed up with the disruption that marches bring to their daily lives.

“As a result of the recent violence and the prospect of 14 more marches this month alone, it is time something is done. I will be asking the Scottish Government what action it is proposing to clamp down on disorder and violence during marches.

“It is time to change our approach to marches in order to stamp out instances of sectarian violence on our streets.
