FIRST Minister Nicola Sturgeon has responded to reports that Boris Johnson will announce a snap General Election shortly, telling the UK Government to "bring it on".

Sturgeon made clear during an appearance on BBC Good Morning Scotland that any snap election will be presented by the SNP as a vote on whether indyref2 should be held.

She said: "Make no mistake, this question of Scotland's right to choose our own future will be at the very heart of that contest."

Shortly after the FM tweeted: "As talk of a General Election mounts, I say ‘bring it on’...but it must be before Oct 31. MPs must not allow Johnson to game the date as a ploy to push through a no deal Brexit."

It's thought a General Election would provide a huge boost for the SNP. Polling averages since Johnson became PM show the FM's party sitting at 44.4%, translating into 52 seats - a gain of 17 for them.
