THE ancient capital of Scotland was taken over by Scottish independence supporters yesterday.

Thousands took to the streets of Dunfermline for the third annual March and Rally for Independence Dunfermline, organised by campaign group Forward as One.

Following a procession through the town centre, the march moved to Pittencrieff Park where the rally commenced, with plenty of music and speakers taking to the stage.

Dunfermline and West Fife SNP MP Douglas Chapman said there was a “great atmosphere” throughout the event.

He tweeted: “A peaceful, friendly, well organised march for independence today in Dunfermline. I started at the front of the march ended up at the back as I stopped to chat to so many constituents. Great craic all the way!” Leading up to the event, organisers were urging pro-independence supporters to join the march in response to the UK Government’s “massive constitutional vandalism”.
