WORCESTER MP Robin Walker has been appointed parliamentary under-secretary of state at the Scotland Office.

Walker will replace Lord Ian Duncan in the role, working under new Scottish Secretary Alister Jack.

Scottish Tory MPs Douglas Ross, Kirstene Hair and Ross Thomson had all been tipped for the role.

Walker, a former minister in the Department for Exiting the European Union, has represented the English seat since being elected in 2010.

The self-described "One Nation Tory" will also serve in the Northern Ireland Office.

His father, Peter Walker, also represented Worcester as Conservative MP from 1961 to 1992, before being made a life peer in 1992.

Walker was educated at St Paul's School in London and Oxford University's Balliol College.

SNP MP Pete Wishart said it appeared the Scotland Office was "being deliberately designed to troll Ruth Davidson".

He said: “The fact that all the Scottish MPs have apparently been passed over in this reshuffle tells you everything about Boris Johnson’s assessment of them.

“It’s a slap in the face for Ruth Davidson ahead of her meeting with the Prime Minister next week.”

A Whitehall source said the important thing about Walker was not his constituency, but that he was “very good”.
