AT the end of May The National exclusively revealed that Eva Gerber, the Bavarian woman who is a Scottish independence supporter, would ride her bike from Germany to Scotland to highlight the cause of independence.

She set off on the almost 1000-mile marathon bicycle ride from her home in Germany to Scotland on July 1, and we are delighted to report that she has arrived safe and well and is touring Scotland.

Eva, a social media and online media manager, has cycled from her home in the Bavarian city of Wurzburg the way to Argyll.

At the weekend she visited the Yes Cowal Forward Shop in Dunoon with Hamish Kirk of Bute SNP.

Yes Cowal told us: “Eva is very articulate in her support for Scottish independence and has been so impressed by the welcoming reception she has had from Scots all over the country that she is seriously considering staying with us.”

Eva has had tremendous support on social media from independence activists.

One wrote on Facebook: “Fantastic effort for an amazing cause for our freedom from Westminster, well done Eva.”

“Such a noble effort to engage with so many real people on a real level,” wrote another.

Eva was given a warm welcome on Bute in particular, and told her followers on YouTube that she was indeed looking for work in her specialist fields or even just housesitting jobs so that she can stay in Scotland.

We’ll let you know how she gets on but in the first place, congrats on a great effort, Eva.
